If you’re an absolute beginner. get the basics right first. Learn to footbrake, and you should be comfortable riding switch, or at least be able to pivot back into your regular stance. Regarding freeride boards, I like mine with a bit of concave - dropped through and nice responsive bushings in my trucks. Freeriding is all about riding hills but not pegging it down the hill like your next meal depended on it. So you’ll need to learn your 180s, heel and toeside, and switch. Also whatever variations help you have more fun going down the hill.
The most important thing is having fun - safely. Wear protection and always know your limits.
hey! in that pic you just put, what brand is the second board to the left? I'm new to long boarding and I've been thinking about getting a board
You have a great eye. That is none other than my current favourite board. It’s a bustin robot. Her name is Ellie. She’s awesome for freeride, commuting, sliding, getting ladies, bombing hills.
Originally I rode her with bear trucks and Abec11 big zigs. I’ve still got the bear trucks on, but I’ve swapped the Big Zigs for Seismic speedvents now. Big Zigs are super grippy, and that setup was amazing for winter and all the wet surfaces. But now that the roads are drier and I want to bust a slide easier - these wheels are definitely doing the trick for me. The short answer to your question is - Bustin! If you’re new and have some cash I definitely recommend getting a freeride board as they can do freaking everything
Last September I went to skate in Madrid with a bunch of people I started talking to on Facebook for an event I just heard about – La Noche en Negro. Like most human being who ride long boards with soft wheels – I had seen ”Carving the mountains” and was looking forward to meeting some of the chicas.
Those 4 days in Madrid were absolutely magical and they would not have been half as good without the love and hospitality of my new family – Sonso, Jacky, Monica and Carlota.
One of the highlights of that weekend were seeing Tana, Gador, Maitane, Sonso and the rest of the girls skating. Up till that point, I had only seen a few girls skating and never ever this hard. The level of female longboarding I witnessed on my first night in Moyano absolutely blew my mind. The role of the Longboard Girls Crew in this cannot be overstated. So it is with great pleasure that we will be joining our friends in Madrid on April 26 to celebrate the amazing achievement of reaching 100,000 fans on Facebook! - https://www.facebook.com/events/301269823279755/
Absolutely cannot wait to return to the city where I met Axel, Luigi and Agro, where AllAroundSkate started for me. This time there will be even more people from all over Europe and a much bigger contingent. The party at La Tabacalera last time was amazing and there were lots of surprises, the girls haven’t hinted at what they are but I have a few guesses and if what I’m thinking is right – it’s going to be a freaking awesome party and an even better weekend; because there’s no party like a Spanish party!
In this picture there are 4 of us! Can you pick us out?
Say HOLA if you see any of us in an ”AllAroundSkate” t-shirt.
PS: Of course I’m also looking forward to seeing all my bros and skating Moyano! Spartacus, Ra, Jorge, Nacho, Carlos, Jaime, Carlos, Fructu, Jota, JESUS!, Chema, Quido, Seki, Israel, Carlos Negro, Hell Dell, Elesban, Toti and all the other putos!!
