1. Things I learnt this week (so far)

Saturday was shit. One of those weeks where the weather is awesome while you’re at work, the minute you think about skating BOOM! Rain - everywhere! Someone’s idea of a joke no doubt. So another weekend of not skating. One was not amused. So yesterday sent a few texts to the local lads. I had blue wheels and I needed a release.

We had Southend Longboard Pirate Mr Bottomley visiting so we showed him our super local residential hill Before that we had the obligatory hang out in the Kingston skate house (flat) I have a few skate DVDs I haven’t watched so I took them down, together with some Rayne stickers. We voted to watch a sector9 DVD from 2007. Wow. All I can say is longboarding has evolved quickly! The setups and lack of sliding made it feel archaic. There was too much surfing and bad music as well. So we started talking about skate videos, one of the guys hadn’t seen endless roads! I know. Madness. So we switched off the DVD and went all Spanish.

It was awesome. After a bit of banter we set off on our voyage to Konrad hill. Or as I will refer to it after yesterday’s session - sweaty hairy ass hill. The pirate came to the hill with no gloves. It seems the lads in the east are now free riding beasts. Session was awesome. I decided to try SJB’s lush symbian so he sat on my board. Paris trucks and hawgs! What a sweet ride. The concave and rocker make it an excellent machine. Really light and agile. But of course I wanted my baby back. And that’s when shit got real. On alighting from my vehicle I noticed SJB had left a mark on my board. On closer inspection - it was an ass print. A sweaty ass print.

Bloody hell! I didn’t know people could sweat through khakis IN THE WINTER! What a beast. I laughed uncontrollably for at least 4 minutes. We skated some more, a friendly police man came along to apologise that we had to move on. Skated to pub. Good night. Got some sweet toe side pendies and uphill switch pushing. Don’t knock it till you try it. Feeling super stoked for critical mass on Friday. But before that another dirty local slide jam on Wednesday night.

    Skate safe, suckers!!
